This year the annual meeting of the African Group of the International Association of Judges will take place in the Southern Sun Cape Sun hotel in Cape Town, 2 – 6 June 2019.

The conference is co-hosted by the Judicial Officers’ Association of South Africa and the Democratic Governance and Rights Unit (DGRU) of the University of Cape Town.

The theme of the conference is Safeguarding the independence and conditions of service of judicial officers

SUBTHEMES : Еach association is to address one of the sub themes below under the framework of challenges and proposals for change :

  • Insuring security of tenure – constitutional and legislative protection and de facto practice
  • Conditions of service including working environment and related issues
  • Selection and appointment – constitutional and legislative protection and de facto practice
